Any system running a version of macOS between 10.9 (Mavericks) and 10.12 (Sierra) make use of the older HFS+ file system by default. Customers looking to use Deep Freeze Mac on those systems will need to use the installer that supports HFS+ (version 6.21.220.1205).
Systems running macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) may be found with either a HFS+ or a APFS file system depending on the specific machine. Customers will need to check the file system that the drive is formatted with to ensure that they select the correct version of Deep Freeze Mac to install, however in general;
- Systems running magnetic media (traditional hard disks) will use a HFS+ file system.
- Systems running a Fusion Drive (combination of a smaller SSD and a larger HDD into a single volume) will use an APFS file system.
- Systems running a SSD only will use an APFS File system.
Customers should however verify that their specific system is running the expected file system prior to the install of Deep Freeze Mac by opening up the Disk Utility application and checking the file system that is currently in use.
Systems running a version of macOS from 10.14 (Mojave or higher) or systems that are using Apple Silicon will make use of an APFS file system and customers should install the current version of Deep Freeze Mac.
